From tradition to innovation, our manufacturing methods date back to 1921. At Mizutani, we do not use a cast system, instead, we adhere to our traditional methods of handcrafting our shears from start to finish. Our goal is to maintain the master quality craftsmanship which we have been known for throughout the times, while incorporating innovations such as wooden handles to provide optimal form and function. The Sword® Wood series is a truly innovative design with unique characteristics all of its own. High quality natural wood has been used for the handles, so you will feel the softness and smoothness of the handle. This is combined with the Mizutani cutting edge, making this a remarkable masterpiece. The more you use them, the more this wooden handle forms to your hand, making it uniquely yours to the touch over time.

SWORD Wood D-17: Classic “Hamaguri” blade edge.

The blade tips of the D-17  comes to a narrow tip, are thin, and can be used as a precision shear at “5.7in.

Design Note: 

Olive Wood. Featuring a three-layer sandwich structure, placing forged steel within an organic wooden outer layer, the cutting experience of these shears retain a sense of softness in their handling. These shears, comprised of over 20 parts undergo a 30 step manufacturing and quality control process that has proven itself through the test of time. Our research and development team in Chiba, Japan are at the factory lab day in and day out, continually innovating and creating these scissors with the intentions of you using them daily for the duration of your career. Concept shears get prototyped according to the preference of the artists and users that we work with. These preferences are then mapped out to the very last design before making their way into your hands.
